Stage-by-Stage Scope Split
The question that costs first-time builders the most money is not what a machine costs. It is who is responsible for the gap between two machines. Pick a stage to see who supplies, installs, commissions and signs for it, and the one design decision at that stage that changes the figure.

Fix the format range before the layout, and state the second format if there is one.
Adding a format after the layout is fixed usually means moving equipment rather than adding it, and the intake end is where that movement starts.
Anything outside this map is named at acceptance, so nobody discovers an unowned gap during a stoppage. When you compare two quotations, compare the boundary before you compare the figure: a lower equipment number usually means more integration work left on your side, and that work costs you at commissioning rather than at purchase.
